Conflicted Orison<\/strong><\/p>\n

Keep pessimism away from children.
\nNo nihilism before high school\u2026 please!
\nPretend optimism reflects reality best,
\nembodies good sense even if untrue.<\/p>\n

Life is not just difficult but impossible.
\nOur destiny unknowable, now and forever.
\nWe exist in ignorance mind, body and soul.
\nHope for heaven, prepare for hell\u2026 or accept
\nwhatever nothingness we think the beyond may be.
\nHuman understanding was not constructed to
\nfully comprehend the immaterial.
\nWonder contains inherent limitations.<\/p>\n

The why of the bright side is undeniable:
\nkisses, summer, cupcakes, daisies, sky
\n\u2014 all those songs to sing \u2013
\nhow joy is shared, how pleasure feels
\nwatching her eyes first see yours;
\nthe many though vastly
\noutnumbered things of this world
\nsurely to be missed or
\nat least compensated for
\nin the next.<\/p>\n

What besides love do we desire most?
\nConfidence and competence \u2013 without
\nwhich love can barely survive. All work,
\ndespised as oppression \u2013 but working, the act
\nof completing if not completion \u2013 beloved, beholden.
\nNothing in this life now more vital.<\/p>\n

Talent is only being who we are,
\nways to find new capabilities.
\nThose not needing a job
\nwhose money makes money
\nthey imprison us all
\nin this pit of want.
\nIf we need an enemy in what
\nwe agree is the temporary
\nlet\u2019s identify who
\nIs guilty and why.<\/p>\n

We know what is life;
\nyes\u2026 life itself!
\nFlesh and blood
\nhunger and sex
\nyearning and satiation
\nthe finite beats
\nin your heart.<\/p>\n

How can biology have any
\nmeaning other than the factual
\nwithout personal morality
\nor infinite justice?<\/p>\n

Laws, philosophies, customs
\ncollective preferences, best practices
\ntext me the link later
\nthere\u2019s only you and me here.
\nWho cares if we\u2019ve forgotten already
\nor speak softly or loudly
\nstay significant or become obsolete.
\nAt least we are now
\nknown to each other.
\nWhy ignore simple facts.<\/p>\n

The knowledge of unavoidable demise,
\ninforms every moment except
\nevery other moment when
\nwe remember the happiness
\nof childhood: unable or unwilling
\nto ask life the question of death.<\/p>\n

Because it\u2019s not just you.
\nOther critical truths
\nimmediately apparent:
\nNo answer forthcoming.
\nNo place to escape.
\nTrust in science, depend on luck.<\/p>\n

The revelation of the unknowable
\nbut inevitable and eternal never
\ninspires faith and doubt
\n\u2013 conviction and fear \u2013
\nthe only rational response is
\nbright side insistence
\nwhen children are present.
\nHowever illusory or disposable
\npreserve hope no matter the cost.<\/p>\n
