Dreamt

I dreamt the whole night through.

I dreamt I was dreaming of you.

I knew the first was a dream

but the second caught me unaware.

I really believed you were there

beside me in the bed,

while above the earth of sleep

our anxiety had fled;

We danced across a rainbow sky,

made love upon an ocean of light.

Happiness was the night.

When my eyes opened

all I saw was you.

Want some water, you said,

water with some ice?

But I was waking twice.

Your face faded

the moment I said

I love you.

I suddenly knew

the pale dawn was a fact,

that better life only felt true.
