That Same Love

That Same Love

You could feel her anger
like a blazing red aura
around her eyes and shoulders.

Talking into her smart phone,
her voice loud, but constrained.

“How could you behave
towards your wife
That way?”

That same love
that made her seethe, today
less then a year ago
unseen beneath the table
made her fingers
scrape his wrist.
.
His smile let her know
he shared her bored impatience
with not being alone.

They were with another couple,
laughing politely, finishing
each other’s sentences.

Drinking apple martinis,
waiting for the appetizers.
On the table, candle flames
glow within glass, shimmering
yellow on four faces.
